Rating: - Neither of 2 units calibrate as per the user manual
I tried one unit, and according to the manual, all the indicators on the LCD are supposed to 'illuminate/appear' briefly during calibration. When I did the calibration, the largest indicator (i.e. the graphic of the stud edge detector...I'll call it the 'bullseye'), did NOT appear at all. However, the unit seemed to locate studs well-enough (based upon my rough estimates using my 'knuckles' to locate wall studs by listening for a change in sound.) This thing actually works, and readily finds the stud edges so I know where to drill for installation of shelves and tool hangers. It was offered at a great price.

I don't think I understand some of the negative reviews. But I based my purchase on a Popular Mechanics issue that said it was one of the best sensors for the money and I agree. I have gone through many Zircon units throughout the years and they don't last plus they are undependable. After the last one gave up the ghost for no apparent reason, I decided to try another brand. This is exactly what I was looking for in a multisensor! I was torn at first between this and the sensor which is essentially the same but also doubles as a laser-level. I'm glad I chose this one, it seems more practical to have this smaller unit and then a separate laser-level for when I need it.
This sensor has proven to be very accurate with regard to studs. As for AC, I don't know where all the wiring is in my apt., so I don't feel like I can give a fair review on this part of the sensor. ... Read More
